IPVanish Android App Review

IPVanish just released a new Android app v1.5 for their popular VPN service.  Members with Android Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) or higher can download it from their site for free.  Best of all we tested the new app with Android 6.0 Marshmallow and it works great.  We’ll share some tips along with a review.  If you’re new to VPN or haven’t had a chance to try IPVanish then take advantage of their current special.  They are kindly offering our guests unlimited access to their network of 225+ VPN servers in 60 countries from just $4.87 a year.

IPVanish Android App Setup

You can visit the IPVansih site to learn more about the new Android app or download it directly from Google Play.  When the client launches you’ll have a chance to select a server.  Before you connect for the first time the app will ask you to enter your username / password.  You can have it save your credentials.

App Usage and Performance

Let’s take a look at the IPVanish Android app on an LG G4 running Android Marshmallow.

IPVanish Android

We use IPVanish all the time, especially when traveling.  Their software has always been easy to use so we were anxious to test out the new version of their Android app.  The app is free for members so we updated it this morning.  After the quick install we fired it right up.  The server selection screen makes it easy to choose any of their 225+ servers in 60+ countries.  You can select a server and switch between them anytime.

The server list is sorted by response time be default.  That’s our preference since it provides the best performance.  You can also set it to sort by country.  We tested connections in the United States, United Kingdom and the Netherlands.  All of which worked without any issues.  After connecting you can view usage stats.  We stayed online for awhile and the speed was good.  We were easily able to unblock sites and stream content through the VPN connection.

In conclusion we enjoyed testing the new IPVanish Android app v1.5 and look forward to using it on a regular basis.  The app is easy to use and the interface is intuitive.  You simply scroll through the servers and connect to any of them, changing IP addresses each time you switch.  Visit IPVanish.com and test it out for yourself.

The Growth of IPVanish IP Addresses

Along with the rapid growth of IPVanish comes the need for more IP addresses.  We’re not too surprised as we’ve watched and documented the fast growth of their network over the last six months.  In December the IPVanish network included 56 servers in 21 countries and 2,500 IP’s.  Not bad at all but nothing like where they are now.  The network now consists of 101 servers in 43 countries and 7,000 IP addresses.

IPVanish offers 7,000 IP addresses

What does tripling IP addresses really mean?  For starters it means that IPVanish is ready to support their ever growing customer base.  As a member I’m happy to see them expanding into new locations.  Giving subscribers access to over 100 servers in 43 countries for the same price we paid a year ago.

Do you know how IP addresses work for VPN providers?  IPVanish and many other leading VPN services use shared IP”s.  Which means you are using the same address as other users on their network.  With shared addresses the IPVansh network can use their 7,000 IP’s to support tens of thousands of users.

We like using the IPvanish client to switch between servers.  Doing so also changes your IP address.  We might start on a server in the United States where the connection is really fast for streaming Netflix.  Then move on to a server in the United Kingdom to watch some BBC programming.  All with the click of a mouse.

Cheers to IPVanish for their continued efforts.  You can enjoy unlimited VPN access from $6.49 a month.

IPVanish Passes 100 VPN Servers

We’ve been watching the rapid growth of VPN providers over the years.  With a few services like StrongVPN and Hide My Ass building large networks.  Now they have some stiff competition from other leading companies like IPVanish, PureVPN and OverPlay.  That’s good company to be in but the fastest growing service right now is IPVanish.  They’ve doubled their network size in less than six months and continue to rapidly expand.

IPVanish 100 VPN Servers

Here’s a full list of the IPVanish VPN server locations.  Several countries include multiple servers.

  • Countries with VPN servers include Canada, Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria, China, Czech Republic, Denmark, Egypt, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Iceland, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Moldova, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Panama, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Singapore, Slovak Republic, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, United Kingdom and the United States.

Performance on the IPVanish network is excellent.  They offer 35 servers in the United States alone.  With the best speeds in the US, Canada, UK and throughout Europe.  Here’s a full list of IPVanish speed tests.

The latest network expansion includes new servers in Ireland, Moldova, Poland and the United States.  In addition they released a new version of their free Windows VPN client with some nice enhancements.  We’ll cover that in more detail in the days to come.  Enjoy unlimited IPVanish access from just $6.49 a month.

IPVanish Client Gets a New Look

The IPVanish team just rolled out a new release of their popular Windows VPN client.  Version 1.3.0.2 comes with a fresh new look.  The user interface displays all 90+ IPVanish VPN servers along with their response (ping) times.  We tested several locations and were able to switch between servers and IP’s worldwide.  The new client is included free with their service.  IPVanish offers unlimited VPN from just $6.49 a month.

Let’s take a look at the user interface in the new 1.3.0.2 Windows client release:

IPVanish Windows Client

As you can see we were connected to a VPN server in London when we took this screenshot.  The client clearly shows our location (London, UK) along with the IP address (81.171.97.39) assigned to our connection.  With an IP in the United Kingdom we could watch BBC content.  The same is true when connected to servers in the United States.  Unblocking access to popular streaming services like Netflix, Hulu and Pandora.

With the new software design you can easily choose between OpenVPN (TCP or UDP), L2TP or PPTP protocols.  We like OpenVPN (TCP) the best for maximum protection.  For streaming services OpenVPN (UDP) provides the fastest connection speeds.  We regularly achieve over 30 Mbps download speeds in the United States while enjoying encrypted VPN access.  Fast enough to stream HD content without any lags.

Cheers to the IPVanish development team.  The fresh look and feel of their new Windows client will be enjoyed by new and existing users alike.  We use the service on a regular basis and look forward to future releases.  Follow us @VPNSP for all the latest news and specials.  Download the new client from IPVanish.com.
