Why rely on a router for VPN access?  You don’t have to but it definitely has it’s advantages.  For starters you can protect your entire network with a single VPN account.  Every connection that passes through the router is encrypted.  No need to set up VPN on your mobile devices or tablets for home use.  It also extends encrypted access to game consoles, network DVD players and other devices that might not otherwise support VPN.

FlashRouters offers a wide selection of brand name routers from big names like Cisco Linksys, Netgear, Asus and more.  Some of our favorites include the Netgear R7000 and R6300, Asus RT-AC66U AC1750, and Cisco E4200.  All of which come pre-flashed with either DD-WRT or Tomato firmware.  You can decide on which firmware option to choose based on the model that best fits your needs.  Both will get the job done.

There are many advantages of a device from FlashRouters.  I suggest you visit their site and watch the video on the homepage for a good explanation of benefits.  Our focus is online privacy so we encourage you to use the router to protect your network with a VPN connection.  FlashRouters works directly with several leading VPN services including IPVanish, Private Internet Access, OverPlay and many more to make sure you’re fully protected.  Head on over to FlashRouters.com this weekend to find a great router with free shipping.

The benefits of flashing your router with DD-WRT or Tomato firmware are significant.  I’m using an Asus RT-N66U right now to protect my home network.  When time comes to replace your existing router take a look at FlashRouters selection.  They pre-configured my Dark Knight router to connect to VPN out of the box.  Allowing me to protect all the devices on my home network with a single VPN account.

I couldn’t be happier with my router.  You can learn more about the Tomato firmware features and performance in our FlashRouter review.  You’d be surprised just how easy it was to get started.  To give you a little background I’ve known the team at FlashRouters for a few years now.  They were great to work with when I needed assistance getting my Linksys Cisco E2000 router going on Vonage.  While I haven’t needed support for the Asus yet it’s great to have the option and knowledge there.

After you finish reading head over to FlashRouters.com and just check out their selection of brand name routers.  Remember they are all flashed with either DD-WRT or Tomato firmware.  Along with selecting a device you can choose to have it pre-configured with your favorite VPN provider.  They have a list of several leading services to choose from.  Note that you’ll need to a VPN account before ordering if you’d like it preset.

When you’re exploring the selection of routers from the likes of Cisco Linksys, Netgear, Asus, Belkin and more don’t forget to check out their Weekly Deals page.  They rotate through different devices on a regular basis.  Giving you a chance to save on everything from high-end AC routers to middle and low-end value devices.

Best VPN Routers

The week of our post the FlashRouters team cut the price on some of their new AC devices including the Asus RT-AC66U, Netgear R7000, and Netgear R6300.  All these models and several others come pre-flashed with DD-WRT firmware.  From our experience with the Asus RT-N66U versus our old Linksys E2000 we can only imagine how good the new AC routers perform.  You can also order the router pre-loaded with your VPN account information from leading providers like IPVanish, Hide My Ass and Private Internet Access.

Best of luck getting a great deal on a router.  Enjoy the extra features like network-wide encrypted VPN access.

FlashRouters OpenVPN

So what’s the big deal about OpenVPN?  Without getting too technical the answer is that OpenVPN is a better solution than PPTP.  It’s a more secure protocol.  If you’ve ever tried to set up OpenVPN on a router you know it can also be quite a technical challenge.  That’s where FlashRouters comes in.  They figured out the process well enough to replicate it between a wide range of VPN providers.  Giving you an out of the box solution.

As we mentioned FlashRouters carries a large selection of brand name routers.  We’ll be following up with a post on the most popular devices next week.  In the meantime we recommend some of their latest wireless-AC devices like the Netgear R7000, Asus AC-66U and Netgear R6300 V2 routers.  All of which come with a 90 day warranty and three months of support to help you set up a connection to your favorite VPN service.

You can visit FlashRouters.com to browse their devices and learn more about their support for OpenVPN.  As always you can follow us on Twitter @VPNSP for the latest online privacy news and discount offers.

Sabai JaiRo Kickstarter Campaign

The team at Sabai Technology is working on an innovative new project to develop an open source x86 router platform based on Ubuntu Linux.  They recently launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds and gain awareness for the project.  There are several award levels still available.  Rather than try to sum up JaiRo in a few sentences we suggest you visit their Kickstart page and watch the three minute video on the project.

Sabai JaiRo Project

We look forward to bringing you news and updates as the JaiRo project progresses.  The purpose of this post is really to spread awareness and help the Sabai team raise funds through their Kickstarter campaign.  It looks like they are off to a good start.  With 47 backers and nearly $7.500 raised in the first three days.  For the project to be funded their goal is to raise a total of $50,000 by August 15th at 2:30 PM EDT.

Obviously fundraising for JaiRo is a key goal of the Kickstarter campaign but awareness is also important.  The Sabai team is looking for developers to build on the open source platform when the alpha version is released.  You can learn more about the project by visiting their Kickstarter page.  They also have a JaiRo demo site live.  There you can get an idea of the user interface and what Sabai is looking to do in terms of early functionality.
